I combine my realism with elements of design for I believe “a painting is only as good as its design”. Subject matter is secondary to the medium as I love painting any subject. For me, the act of creating a painting may have surprising and interesting results as the picture evolves under my brushes. My understanding of color theory is acute and I use it to produce subtle variations in mood and with a limited palette I can produce harmonious results.
Although many of my works are classical watercolor pieces, since moving to the Amelia Island area my acrylic works are reflecting the closeness to the beach. I base my paintings on reality but my excellent design theory allows me to produce attractive, but ambiguous pictorial arrangements that tease and please the eye. My technique of using only triadic primary palettes always results in harmonious watercolor pictures that have my characteristic pristine appearance.
