Suzanne was educated at Penn State University and Tyler School of Art where she studied Art, Design and Art History, graduating with a Bachelor’s in Fine Art. Watercolor, acrylics, and mixed media are her mediums and her style ranges from realistic to contemporary with subjects mainly drawn from nature.
Suzanne combines her realism with elements of design for she believes “a painting is only as good as its design”. Subject matter is secondary to the medium for Suzanne, as she loves painting any subject. For her, the act of creating a painting may have surprising and interesting results as the picture evolves under her brushes. Her understanding of color theory is acute and she uses it to produce subtle variations in mood and with a limited palette she can produce harmonious results.
Although many of Suzanne’s works are classical watercolor pieces since moving to the Amelia Island area her acrylic works are reflecting the closeness to the beach. She bases her paintings on reality but her excellent design theory allows her to produce attractive, but ambiguous pictorial arrangements that tease and please the eye. Her technique of using only triadic primary palettes always results in harmonious watercolor pictures that have Suzanne’s characteristic pristine appearance.
In 2013 Suzanne was introduced to the then new art-form Zentangle and was immediately attracted to it and loves the way it combines art and meditation. She is now a Certified Zentangle Teacher, registered to practice in New Hampshire, Virginia and Florida.
